Sunset at Gate 70

I was plowing off across a big airport… from the lounge to the gate, fast… when I looked up and saw that we were next to an ocean. It stopped me dead in my tracks, the beauty of this scene. My first thought caught me off guard: I couldn’t remember where on the planet I was, or what body of water this might be. I’ve been on the road that much this year.

It’s Gate 70 at Hong Kong International Airport – I love how the gate number’s reflected in the glass, anchoring the scene, giving it a sort of sense of place.

It was only a few weeks ago. Since the I’ve been to Chengdu for a week, to Florida and California and Colorado; Zurich for a few days, then to TED Global in Edinburgh. ‘Took the Eurostar to Paris today, where I’m staying with my best college buddy who I haven’t seen in 13 years.

It’s connections like this, meet-ups with friends, finding new compadres at TED that’s kept me from coming completely untethered this year… not unhinged, just disconnected from everything and everyone.

It feels like I’m catapulting headlong through life right now, maybe even making up for lost time, catching up, moving on. In June I wrote about Dreaming vs. Doing. How’s that going?

I think I’m working my way toward integration, toward having both the dreaming and the actions to make them real… toward living an even fuller life true to my whole self. It’s one thing I realized at TED Global – there are so few times I’m fully expressed: all of me, all of it, unfragmented. I think maybe it’s one of the many ways we make ourselves small, more manageable, less threatening.

Are there parts of you tucked away somewhere? Sides of yourself you gave up on long ago? Passions put away in favor of more pragmatic endeavors?

Are there some you’d like to nurture, resurrect, maybe even showcase this month?

Another thing I’m learning: I cannot do it all.

I have to pick and choose, prioritize. What’s most important to you, Gypsy Girls?

Which Dreams call you so loudly you cannot help but heed their call?
