“Rasa is life’s fluid reality, life’s juice, in every sense of the word.” Shiva Rea
It has taken me a while, but I have finally figured out what I am looking for in life, in work, in art.
I want to capture rasa.
Rasa has many meanings. In this case, it can be likened to the juice of life. To quote Shiva Rea, “Rasa …enhances our moment-to-moment satisfaction with being fully alive”. It is that fully alive part, I really resonate with. I want to capture the juice, the passion and the beauty I see and experience. I want to be able to bring the energy cultivated on the yoga mat into the rest of my life, and share it with others through Art.
For me, rasa is like the soil from which my dreams grow and blossom, the place from which the seeds I plant in my life take root. It is a state of transformation, possibility and flow. To really be able to capture rasa in my work, means I need to cultivate it, and nurture my time spent living in it, being in it and tasting it.
I am learning to not only savor the big moments in life, but also the quiet places in between. The joy of rasa it that it requires me to be fully present to the moment at hand, truly seeing what is.
This is my practice, my sadhana.
What can you do to cultivate rasa and live juicier today?

I’m cultivating rasa today but cherishing all the sweet emails I’m receiving in anticipation of my baby. Trying to slow down and sooth my soul in this in between moment… Thanks for posting here, Em. xo
I have also been trying to capture and articulate the essence of what I want in my life, too, and the definition of rasa is an inspiration. Thank you.
