Cambridge, Fall 2009.
One of my favorite things about travel is that is forces me to step out of my day to day and look at life from a broader perspective.

For this reason, in recent years I have practiced a tiny ritual on the plane. As the engine gets going and the plane is gaining speed to take off, I think of whatever is stressing me out and I formulate an intention for whatever it is that I need to leave behind. Then, as the plane gets further and further away from the ground, I look out the tiny window and I watch everything get small, less critical, less relevant… I visualize myself pulling back from it, letting it all fall small in comparison to this big world we live in and the adventure that lies ahead.
It works every time.

These pics were taken from the top of the Great St Mary’s, a 15th century church in the heart of historic Cambridge. When I was up there I had a moment in which I released all the ideas I had about that trip, the shoot I wanted to do there, etc. It was so good! The clouds even made room for the blue sky and the sunshine came through, so I could snap a few pics.

What can we do this week to release overwhelm and look at our day to day from a broader view?

What a fantastic ritual! I need to release my expectations that I can do everything I planned for this week and still respond to the needs of my friends who are needing extra love and support this week. Which will be more important from a longer perspective? Hitting my word count for the week or taking care of a friend in need? Thanks!
While I understand the desire to let go of being overwhelmed- I can’t help but wonder how you moved past being overwhelmed by such an incredible view. Gazing upon such a place tends to create a sense of longing and overwhelming excitement in me- I want to hop a plane. now. Your photos are breathtaking!
Thank you for sharing!
