Even though I’ve been mopey and all lately, I couldn’t help but feel completely uplifted and inspired by French photojournalist Guillaume Herbaut’s photographs! What a kick in my butt!
Lucky lucky Giullaume got to spend some time with a tough group of 150 Ukrainian women who call themselves “Asgarda.” (read more… read more.. it’s good!)

Via Bust Magazine:
In the Ukraine, power has always rested in the hands of men. Women have been victims of sexual trafficking and exploitation. Misogyny has been a part of the Soviet culture for centuries causing many feminist movements to rise and fight their oppressors.

The ‘Asgarda,’ a new tribe of empowered women, is developing in the Carpathian Mountains. Thirty-year-old Katerina Tamouska leads the tribe of 150 women, varying in ages. Using the tribal traditions of the Scythian Amazons of ancient Greek Mythology, the Asgarda train in martial arts and learn life skills and science. They also seek complete autonomy from men. I am sure you will agree when I say that these women are amazing!

  • Perfect timing. I’m getting my BADASS on as we speak!

  • I love this! I love Bust magazine, precisely because they run these sorts of stories.
One of my favorite (tho silly) quotes is from that TV show “That 70′s Show” and is: “Where zen ends, ass-kicking begins.” As peace-loving as I am I reckon there is still a time and a place for (metaphorical) ass-kicking!

  • Interesting blog you have here, definitely 1 to become bookmarked. I think your sort of writing and how you express items is intriguing and gets me wanting to read much more and more! Thanks again!

  • Great post, thanks. Could you explain the second section in more detail please?
