Wandering thoughts & Gypsy Life

thoughts.jpg
Quieting my thoughts, India.

Gosh. Where to start? Happy Saturday, everyone!

I am here, awake in the wee hours of the night.... (not an uncommon event, I might add.) Once again I just had no choice, but to leave the warm bed. My head had this increasing buzz, which I knew, as soon as it started, was going to torment me, until I sat myself back at the desk to write. (Gotta love the husband! He is a champ for putting up with me... Love you, gypsy hubby!)

It is actually quite maddening how my mind works these days. Since I left my job, I am experiencing this wide expansion. I feel so multi-dimensional, and with so many stars, micro universes, living inside of me. I'm a multitude, spinning in a chaotic rhythm. I'm ecstatic! I'm wandering not around the world but within. In order to remain sane, suspended and supported, the only thing that works is to ground myself with writing, lots of writing, everyday. It is what roots me above all.

You know how in yogic breathing, you breathe out a long exhale, forcing the air out and emptying yourself completely? That single moment in which you are emptied of tainted air, with your eyes closed, your spine straight, you can feel your body disappear, and suddenly, you are floating in a certain high. Right then you are a pure empty vessel, waiting to be refilled with fresh new ways.... Ahhh... Have you felt that? If not, I highly recommend it. And that is what I am after right now. I want that emptiness that is so uplifting. I know I can get a similar result without moving air, but instead, pushing thoughts out of my head. Those stale thoughts that are not action, the obsolete hum that traps me in inertia.

On that note... Yes. Moving on with the Saturday post... ;)

What I really wanted to share with you today has nothing to do with my wandering thoughts. Or perhaps it does. I want to introduce the "Gypsy Life" series!

The fabulous Maryam, from My Marrakesh, recently reminded me of the reason I started this blog in the first place: to share the gypsy spirit! So although it seems overwhelming to do it all, and despite the fact that I already share gypsy insights here and there, throughout all my posts... I'm going to attempt to create space for this topic on the weekly basis. Why? Because I've always wanted to, because some of you have asked for it over the years, and because I realized that I never actually cleared the space to do it. Oh no!

So to amend this issue, Saturdays will now be filled with travel stories, hows and what ifs of taking up a gypsy lifestyle, body, heart and soul, interviews, and also, guest posts from other gypsies! My hope is that this column will inspire us to keep exploring, learning and making our planet a better place for all beings ~ gypsy style ~ Shall we?

How about you? Do you also need to clear some room in your mind or in your life to fit something special? Tell us and then... Well... Do it!

Here is a video that is going to inspire for sure. Chris is a super cool German dude who went on a walking journey from China to Germany. He walked for one year and grew a long beard! Imagine that? His photos are gorgeous too, make sure you browse his site.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone. Thanks for following me here! xoxo

and i love your gypsy soul

thank you for sharing your luminous heart:)

Being that I have true Hungarian gypsy blood in my viens, I can say that a stirring heart for the passions in one's life is a gift, not a struggle...and I am enjoying looking through your photography and writings...
Peace and blessings-
Anne Marie

first of all, that photo of you is so beautiful. stunning. lovely.

uplifting emptyness, i know it well. and am seeking out those moments, too.

and mmmmmmm...weekly travel stories? all things gypsy? uh, yeah, i'll show up for that. absolutely!

loved the video too.

you're great. xo lisa

Yes! I know that moment in Pranayama when there is release and sanctuary. Writing does that for me too. In fact, I've found that of all the things in the world that might keep me grounded, there are only four that really work. Writing is one of them. Yoga is one (although I have a hell of a time getting into the habit of it and staying there). Another is time in nature---the desert, the ocean, rivers and mountains, lakes and forests---ahhh..release! The fourth is exploration/travel.

I've always considered myself a gypsy, as a kid I traveled and lived all over the Western United states. I never really found a place to call home, except that traveling is my home (does that make sense?). I've met so many beautiful souls along the way! When I first ran away from home at 17, I met up with the rainbow family (do you know of them?) and traveled with them, feeding the poor and tired and cold. I learned so much from them. One of the best lessons was that stories from other people's travels (when told from the heart) impart some of the most precious human realizations and gifts. That is why I am so excited about your new series! Thank you for opening up a space to share! *hugs*

love this post and your spirit. can't wait to read more. i'd love more gypsy spirit - especially coming from you!

Yay! I'm so excited about this new feature and about being a small part of it. xx

This will be a lovely experience. Can't wait. xo

PAPA:

one of my fave posts, Alex. Love the line: Since I left my job, I am experiencing this wide expansion.
I read that fear contracts us (our unnatural state) and love expands us.

(i'm also up late prepping my new site to "get it out there")

:)

HOLLY - UK:

YES!!! I'm so so so glad you have started to post every saurday about gypsy life!! I actually emailed you suggesting you do something like this - so thankyou!!

Oh my goodness, i just watched that video - it is amazingggg!! Wow, some people have got such good ideas - taking photos of yourself everyday behind markets, famous statues, airports, beaches etc...and walking on your own all tha way, such amazing inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I also LOVE your description of yogic breathing and becoming so light!!!! :) Something i have yet to feel :) xxx

Count me in...I am living the life as we speak!

honey i can't wait to see and feel and taste and experience on so many levels the gypsy feast that you will share here.

there's so much life. so much joy and so much passion in you that i can feel it through my screen i'm sure!

:)

i think i could definitely do with some yogic breathing in my life right now... how is it that the things i know are good for me (and are easy and simple and quick to do to return me to being centered and grounded) are often the things i overlook? sigh...
