Shining Star

Shining Star, Mission – San Francisco, 2009.

It doesn’t matter…
Regardless of what anyone says
and the labels they push on you.
Despite the muck and the mess.
Even if you feel abandoned
Or perhaps constricted, imprisoned and
Unfree…
Don’t forget:
Underneath it all and
No matter what:
You are a shining star!

And on that note…
Do you feel uncomfortable about getting your picture taken?
Do you find something negative about every single picture of you?
But do you also secretly wish to have photos of yourself, where your inner beauty shines through?
Then you are like me. For years I’ve been very self conscious about getting my picture taken. I’m not sure why so many of us feel this way, but I do know I want to make it better for us…
With that in mind ~ if are in the SF bay area ~ stay tuned ~ I’m going to start offering “Shining Star” Portrait Sessions! These sessions will be designed with the purpose of lighting you up from the inside and capturing you as the shining star that you are.
I will be combining my photography with gentle coaching to empower you and help you tune into your strength, confidence, beauty and self love.
My goal is not only to shoot a lovely photo of you, but also to make sure that you fully enjoy the experience of having your picture taken.
Stay tuned and email me at gypsygirlsguide@gmail.com if you would like to know more.

And look who else is shining bright ~
The adorable Liz Elayne has embarked on an exciting adventure, organizing a retreat that combines yoga & the creative life. The theme of this first retreat is “Self-Portrait Excavation”: a journey of self discovery immersed in paint, words, photography, and the beauty of the Oregon coast, under the guidance of Judy Wise, Jen Goff, and Liz. With such amazing teachers, this sounds like heaven to me… I might just have to join in on the fun.

  • What a beautiful idea! And your kindess, your gentle, playful spirit will be perfect for this! I’ll be in line. x

  • Aaahhh, the lovely, colorful, vibrant Mission. I miss it. Your new venture sounds fantastic and challenging but in a nurturing, gentle way. Judging from your writing style, I bet you are a very good communicator (through spoken words.) That is something I wish to become better at – communicating clearly in a way that is comfortable for my subjects. It’s easy with kids, more challenging with adults.

  • LOVE this photo! And wish I were there, walking around with you. How lucky are the people who get to be the subjects of your photo shoots! Wonderful project – YOU are the shining star, dear Alex. xoxox

  • it would be nice to have you take my picture, and when I finally get to San Fran…you are HIRED!

  • such a beautiful idea – i too hated getting my photo taken, until i saw that my beautiful daughters were excatly the same when, as they grew older, i pointed my lens in their direction! Now i say just think when u are older you will be able to look back and see. It is so much more than just capturing an image, it is the eccence of the person too. Good luck with your venture, it sounds a wonderful idea *ruthie*

  • Oh I know what you mean. I’m not uncomfortable in front of a camera but I can be quite self critical of how I look in the photos. Ah well. Gotta get over it! :)
I like your idea of the Shining Star Portrait Sessions. If we lived closer to one another, I’d certainly love to experience that with you.
